On July 30, 2003 the Pillowtex Corporation announced it would close its doors, sending nearly 5,000 textile workers home for good. The transformation of the textile industry is a story which affects more people in the Southeast than any other single piece of economic news in 100 years. Is the textile industry dead, as the headlines would suggest, or is it being reborn?
A television film documentary currently in production, The NC Textile Documentary Project will take a hard look at this colossal rending of the economic and cultural fabric of the Southeast through the workers who built the textile industry, and those now fighting for its very survival.
