This documentary examines the relationship between today's Southern LGBTQ community and the music they produce. Queering the Southern Sound follows several queer musicians as they tour the southern US, performing nightly to a devoted fan base. The film considers the complex historical relationship between Southern music, personal identity and community formation as it explores how the legacy of traditional Appalachian folk informs today's independent, queer lo-fi scene.
This short documentary will be produced in conjunction with the Social Documentation Masters program at UC Santa Cruz.
