Allan Gurganus is a product of small towns of the North Carolina Piedmont, which have been increasingly reflected in his fiction. Having returned from New York City to his home state, Gurganus has found comfort and inspiration in stories of the people who stayed put and welcomed him back. Now situated in a large “four square” wood house in a NC village, neatly adjacent to a historic cemetery, Gurganus reflects on the forces that make these local communities appealing to him. Tying in other local authors and personalities, this short documentary brings the community into a larger frame.
