Fed up with the Republican Party’s crippling control of politics in North Carolina, a group of first-time, female, Democratic candidates for the North Carolina House of Representatives have banded together ahead of the 2018 midterm elections, determined to break the supermajority. From teachers, to homemakers, to a retired Army Colonel, their experience is as varied as the districts where they are running. And in the typically cutthroat world of politics, these women are pioneering a new way of running for office. Despite competing for limited funding and endorsements, they are committed to supporting each other’s campaigns. This is certainly not politics as usual.
