Writing Our Way
Writing Our Way will bring to life a space where learning is profound, and asking difficult questions can lead to a meaningful life. This one-hour film will follow a creative writing class at TROSA (Triangle Residential Options for Substance Abuse) where ten residents come together to explore their lives in order to produce a written piece for a public reading.
They dig through their histories of poverty, racism, and abuse to explore deeply their hopes and their fears. They will push themselves to find the most significant poem, short story, or essay they have to share with the world. In the end, they will read their works publicly so their stories are heard by an audience outside the class. It promises to be provocative and emotional; funny and sad; tragic and hopeful. Writing Our Way will attest to the power of creativity in negotiating an uncertain world.
