DESCRIPTION:Southern Documentary Fund is pleased to present a free work-in-progress screening of IN THE BUBBLE WITH JAIME\, by Emily Harrold as part of our Fresh Docs program. \nIn South Carolina\, African American Jaime Harrison takes on Republican incumbent Lindsey Graham to run for U.S. Senate. But what happens when the COVID epidemic sets in? In a state with one of the largest African American populations in the United States\, Harrison must face not only a global pandemic but a legacy of racial injustice that makes winning an uphill battle. \nDoors will open at 5:00pm\, film will start at 5:30pm. There will be a post film discussion with director Emily Harrold immediately following the screening. \nABOUT THE DIRECTOREmily Harrold is a documentary filmmaker from Orangeburg\, South Carolina. Her films have screened at festivals including the Tribeca Film Festival\, DOC NYC and the Telluride Film Festival. Her short film Meltdown In Dixie\, a TOPIC original documentary that is part of WORLD Channel’s America ReFramed Series\, won the Academy Qualifying Best Short at the 2021 Big Sky Documentary Film Festival and has gone on to garner many awards including a 2022 dupont Columbia Finalist designation and a 2022 Silver Telly Award. Harrold produced the PBS American Experience documentary Flood in the Desert about the 1928 St Francis Dam Disaster\, which premiered in May 2022. Her feature documentary directing debut\, While I Breathe\, I Hope about politician Bakari Sellers\, won the documentary Audience Award at the 2018 New Orleans Film Festival\, premiered on WorldChannel’s AfroPop series in 2019\, and won a 2020 Southeast Region Emmy. Harrold is also part of the team behind Discovery’s Tigerland (Sundance 2019) and National Geographic’s Ron Howard-directed Rebuilding Paradise (Sundance 2020). She is part of DOC NYC’s 2021 40 Under 40 Class. Harrold is a member of Film Fatales\, Documentary Producers Alliance\, and the collective The Filmshop. She is a graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. \nABOUT FRESH DOCSFresh Docs is Southern Documentary Fund’s work-in-progress screening series. DESCRIPTION:Southern Documentary Fund is pleased to present a free work-in-progress screening of BULLS AND SAINTS\, by Rodrigo Dorfman as part of our Fresh Docs program. \nAfter 20 years of living in the United States\, an undocumented family decides to return home. Little do they know it will be the most difficult journey of their lives. Set between the rodeo rings of eastern North Carolina and the spellbinding Mexican hometown they long for\, BULLS AND SAINTS\, filmed over 6 years\, is a love story of yearning and reverse migration. \nDoors will open at 6:30pm\, film will start at 7:00pm. There will be a post film discussion with director Rodrigo Dorfman immediately following the screening. This event will be in adherence to the Carolina Theatre’s Health and Safety policies. The Carolina Theatre of Durham is requiring all fans to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours OR full vaccination for entry. The City of Durham is requiring face coverings to be worn while at the theater except while eating or drinking. Additional policies may apply on a show-by-show basis and are subject to change. \nABOUT THE DIRECTOR \nRodrigo Dorfman is a Latino award-winning filmmaker and multimedia producer living in Durham\, North Carolina. He has worked with POV\, HBO\, Salma Hayek’s Ventanazul and the BBC among others. His short ONE NIGHT IN KERNERSVILLE won Jury Award for best short at Full Frame (2011). “NUEVOlution! Latinos and the New South”\, a national touring museum exhibit based on his documentary work was exhibited at the Levine Museum of the New South\, the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and the Atlanta History Center. He is a cinematographer of ALWAYS IN SEASON; his documentary FIESTA! QUINCEAÑERA premiered on PBS stations nationwide in April 2019 and his documentary THIS TACO TRUCK KILLS FASCISTS won the Best Louisiana Feature Award in 2018 at the New Orleans Film Festival. His latest documentary QUARANTEENED\, will be broadcast on PBS nationwide in 2022.
