Americans purchase more than 30 million Christmas trees each year, but how many of us know where our tree comes from? This documentary follows Christmas tree growers and migrant workers as they work with the Blue Ridge mountain landscape to produce the perfect holiday decor.

North Carolina’s Blue Ridge mountains are the leading Christmas tree producing region in the U.S. South. This documentary will follow the annual cycle as Christmas tree growers and migrant workers work with the mountain landscape to produce the perfect symbol of the holidays. There are three sides to this story, and the triangular shape of a Christmas Tree provides a metaphor for the relationships between farm owners, migrant workers, and the mountains. Understanding the work that produces this important cultural symbol allows us to examine commonly held assumptions that inform a wide range of public policies, including farm subsidies, education, health care, and immigration.
