SOUTHERN DOCUMENTARY FUND EXPANDS FILMMAKING GRANTS

Durham, N.C. – August 21, 2024 – Southern Documentary Fund (SDF) is pleased to announce the expansion of its Production Grants for Southern filmmakers. This year, SDF will increase the number and amount of its grants, awarding seven filmmakers $15,000 each. The expansion is made possible with a grant from JustFilms | Ford Foundation, which has awarded SDF funding to further support Southern filmmakers and stories that represent the complexity and nuance of the American South.

SDF Executive Director, Clint Jukkala says, “SDF is committed to increasing access and resources for Southern documentary makers, and we are thrilled to provide this additional support. The South is full of talented makers with powerful stories to share, and these grants will help more artists realize their projects”.

The application call for 2024 Production Grants closed August 16th.  Awards will be announced in December.

Along with support from JustFilms | Ford Foundation, 2024 SDF Production Grants are made possible through the generosity of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, which has supported SDF and its Production Grants for filmmakers since 2018.
