Three generations of a working-class family are falsely accused of raping and murdering multiple women over the course of two decades. When their teenage son becomes the next target, they must fight back against the institutions that threaten to destroy them all.
This is not a true crime documentary.
This is a film about truth.
According to the FBI, and then local and national media, Timothy Da’Shaun Taylor and his father Shaun kidnapped 19yo Brittanee Drexel, gang-raped her with a group of men, and planned to “trick her out” for pay in 2009.
They ended up killing Brittanee in a fit of fury, then dumped her body in an alligator pit.
None of that was true.
Timothy spent a year in jail related to the investigation without ever being charged. He and Shaun were presented as murderous villains on national television. Their family received death threats for over a decade. They lost their jobs and were ostracized by their community.
And Drexel was the third woman the Taylor family had been falsely accused of kidnapping, murdering, and/or raping since 2001. They served jail time for each but were always exonerated. Those previous accusations were used by investigators in the Drexel case to build a narrative for law enforcement and the media – the Taylors were hunters of white women and had raped and killed Drexel.
The truth is the Taylors are a typical family—loving, flawed, and complex like any family—but not murderers and rapists. Timothy is the owner-operator of trucks and trailers used for the transportation of timber. He lost his left arm in an accident when he was four years old but is an accomplished mechanic who maintains and operates his own small fleet.
As the Taylors are now in the midst of a lawsuit against the FBI, we get to the root of this complicated story: A Black American family tormented for over a decade by law enforcement, media, and the public. We examine and dismantle the false narratives of this story to expose a broader truth — racism itself is an immense false narrative that results in the profound psychological tolls of being misjudged, dehumanized, and discarded.
