Vittles is a series of short films that explore how identity and communities are shaped by food in the Carolinas. Some of the films address a contemporary social issue, others celebrate a cuisine, tell the story of one recipe or explore an underrepresented food culture.
Our film Cafe Sense explores the second highest traded commodity in the world, coffee. The film follows the beans from a local roastery, Counter Culture Coffee, from the small farm to the production house to the weekly coffee tasting hosted at their headquarters in Durham. This film will appear on the Independent Weekly website in December. Vittles will host a coffee cupping and screening at Counter Culture in January--details TBA.
Wok Next Door is about a reporter who learns to cook Chinese food from the older Taiwanese couple who live in the townhouse next door. This short appeared on The Independent Weekly website in December 2011.
