SDF is seeking a Social Media Intern
About the role:
Southern Documentary Fund (SDF) is growing and expanding. We are a Durham based nonprofit arts organization that cultivates documentary media made in or about the American South. Inspired by our core belief that media has the power to impact lives and communities, we serve as a leading advocate for the powerful southern storytelling. We are looking for an energetic and engaging, technically inclined, social media influencer to help SDF tell its story and expand our social media reach.
The Social Media Intern will be an invaluable asset to our SDF team.
The ideal candidate will be a self-dedicated self-starter, and consistent writer who knows the ins and outs of Social Media Marketing. This internship will give them the opportunity to sharpen their skills in social media, SEO, and Digital Marketing in the non-profit sector.
The successful candidate will be able to utilize social media to create a brand voice and presence while engaging the community. They will be responsible for communicating SDF’s voice and messaging through design and branding and will work closely with the Operations Manager and Artistic Director to execute SDF’s vision.
Responsibilities:
Social Media Management
- Write copy and select graphics for a variety of different social media including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and newsletter
- Create dynamic, interesting, and grammatically correct sentences that drive engagement and action
- Work in conjunction with the SDF team to ensure all messages align with brand and purpose
Content Creation
- Provide creative and engaging suggestions for weekly posts and newsletter.
- Plan and post reviewed SDF content weekly
- Search engine optimize all content before publishing
- Publish content using provided software
- Graphics Design is a plus.
Content Management
- Write and execute content creation using SDF strategy for posts, stories, etc. in order to optimize SEO and generate leads for clients.
Candidate Requirements:
- Avid self-learner with a passion for the digital marketing industry and social media specifically
- Experience working with, Instagram, Tiktok, Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, Vinmeo.
- Experience using Later, Mailchimp and Canva preferred
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills to handle weekly tasks and goals
- Ability to meet deadlines and work efficiently without sacrificing quality
- Ability to work independently and problem solve while participating in a team environment
- Current student or Bachelor’s Degree preferred
What you will learn as a Social Media Manager at succeeding small:
Education is our number one value at Succeeding Small. This position will help you sharpen your existing writing skills as it applies to persuasive copy in various digital formats. Social Media Managers will learn:
- A deep understanding of Social Media Management, Search Engine Optimization, and how to write for both the algorithm and the audience
- Branding: creating taglines, branded vocabulary, tone, and intentional messages for small businesses
Remote – Based in North Carolina – local to Triangle/Triad area
Terms: Part-Time Internship (up to 10 hours weekly- typically 5 hours per week)
Equipment Requirements: Computer & Smartphone
Pay: $15 per hour

Schedule: Monday to Friday. up to 10 hours per week - Remote work parameters:
- Most work and meetings can be done remotely.
- There may be occasional meet ups in the Durham/Burlington area.
Experience:
- Social media marketing: 1 year (Preferred)
