STATE OF RODEO celebrates 500 years of rodeo and ranching in Florida, the state where it all began.

STATE OF RODEO follows a diverse group of characters who participate in the sport of rodeo and explores the heritage of the cattle industry within the state of Florida and it’s influence on western culture from the time of Ponce De Leon’s first settlement to present day cowboys and cowgirls.

Rodeo still fascinates to this day, the heritage of this sport’s tradition is one of the founding industries of our nation and most people don’t know that Florida played an integral role in this history. What makes Florida unique is the rich cultural fabric of the diverse people that participate in the rodeo and ranching culture including traditional ranchers, people of color, women, and Native Americans, who participated in cattle ranching with the Spanish well before the United States was created. 2021 marks the 500th anniversary of Ponce de Leon’s 2nd voyage to Florida whereby he would attempt to create the first settlement on the shores of southwestern Florida. This is the state where it all began, this is the state of rodeo.
