Directed by Bree Newsome Bass, THEY TRIED TO BURY US highlights the evolution of Bree’s activist organizing since 2015 when she scaled the flagpole at South Carolina’s capital and removed the confederate flag in protest. Newly married, Bree works to balance family life with time she commits to grassroots organizing and national speaking. When her hometown of Charlotte, NC places a bid to host the 2020 RNC convention less than four years after riots erupted in the city over racism, Bree and her coalition of activists brace for national tensions to reach a boiling point in their backyards once again.
