Exploring themes of family, belonging, identity, and home through her unique lens as a DACAmented artist, activist and public speaker, Yehimi Cambrón Álvarez prepares for her first ever solo exhibition, “Now We Thrive”.

“We Give Each Other The World” (Working Title) follows emerging Mexican American artist Yehimi Cambrón Álvarez as she works to prepare 17 new and reimagined art works for her first ever solo exhibition, “Now We Thrive”. Departing from her large-scale work as a muralist, Yehimi creates paintings, prints and sculptures that weave together both personal and political themes of family, migration, detention, belonging, displacement, and the meaning of home– explorative work which, according to Yehimi, “refuses any singular narrative of what it means to be Undocumented.” Through the lens of Yehimi’s own personal story, the film will explore the larger landscape of America’s immigration policies, family separation, and detention. As Yehimi works to create her artwork in time for her solo exhibition, one question emerges: Can Yehimi’s art break through the barriers of politics and prejudice to foster a deeper understanding and change the way America sees its Undocumented citizens?
