Brooke Sonenreich returns to Miami on August 24, 2021, 29 years after Hurricane Andrew destroyed South Miami, to focus on how the natural disaster had an effect on her family’s psyche. The documentary interviews her father, mother, sister, psychiatrist and therapist, to learn more about how losing their home to the surge flooding changed their trajectory forever. JUMPING JACK FLASH touches on themes of mental health, natural disasters, and climate change. It’s intended to be shot on 35 mm and then developed in Miami salt water to give it the quality of photographs and miniDVs damaged by the flood.
