PHOTO FARM, specializing in art-documentary photographic practices, is a space for making, and for makers, in Chapel Hill, NC. Embracing a collaborative approach, we host artists, workshops, talks, and the exchange of ideas and skills.

PHOTO FARM is projected to open in Autumn 2024 as a darkroom, studio, workshop space—and more. We are a small staff of artists whose mission is to cultivate artistic expression while fostering community. Rooted in art-documentary photographic practice, PHOTO FARM invites artists to fashion records of our collective – and individual – experience. We celebrate the reciprocal exchange of knowledge, skills and personal histories. We nourish the idea that, in an ever-changing evolution, we are all teachers and students in one lifetime. PHOTO FARM provides the space to be both. We host workshops, artists, and talks. We have an on-site analog darkroom and a photo studio for rent. PHOTO FARM also proudly provides a roster of artists for hire to make portraits. We believe every person contributes to a larger ecological and sociocultural whole. Because of this philosophy, we have a fellowship program that enables artists to engage with PHOTO FARM’S programs, facilities, and resources at no cost and/or a sliding scale. Regular, ongoing support helps our creative community thrive. Donations are an essential part in our goal to nourish PHOTO FARM’S inclusivity.
