While small, the community nurtures a thriving artistic and traditional mountain music scene with dozens of jam sessions that fill the street corners every Friday night. Its focal point and gathering place is The Floyd Country Store. One of the oldest buildings in town, the store is now host to traditional music classes, concerts, dances, and for the past ten years – The Floyd Radio Show. Explore how Appalachian music, storytelling, and identity are being preserved and challenged during a single night’s broadcasting of The Floyd Radio Show, an old-timey variety show put on in the Virginia mountain town of Floyd – population 425.
