The photography project, “Working Season,” examines the H-2A Seasonal Farmworker Visa Program. This visa program allows foreign nationals to live and work on American farms for up to 10 months a year. “Working Season” focuses on farmworkers who live and work on farms in rural North Carolina. It explores the social structures of worker groups on host farms, ultimately seeking to define the relationship these workers – who spend most of their time laboring in the field – have with the surrounding communities. Furthermore, this project captures the place these workers have within the social and economic fabric of the Latino community in rural North Carolina. Distribution of this project will come in the form of photography exhibitions held in Wilson and Dunn, North Carolina – two areas with high concentrations of H-2A workers. Public exhibitions in farming towns with high concentrations of H-2A workers are integral components of this project; they are the best form of audience engagement, including participation and feedback. An exhibition series is currently being planned for two such towns, Wilson and Dunn, NC.
