Filmmaker Cherie Kelly explores the historical significance of the soulful cuisine chitterlings, beginning with its roots in slavery and its evolution as a delicacy in some African American homes today. Chitlings: From Slave Food to Soul Food will explore the cultural divide amongst some in the black community that feels this is a “slavery food” that should not be consumed in the eyes of those who feel it is an unhealthy food of our colonizers, contrasting that to those that choose to acknowledge the history and social significance of the dish as it relates to black cultural identity of those who choose prepare and consume this cuisine, embracing it as tradition.
